For our global IT operations department (ITO), we are looking for a IT operations solution architect responsible to design, build and implement IT infrastructure solutions in accordance to our corporate standards and based on the requirements of various internal (IT) and external (business) stakeholders. While providing technical guidance and consultancy to our internal customers as well as to the ITO delivery organization, this newly built role’s main responsibility is to manage all aspects of the evaluation, design and operational validation as well as handover of new IT infrastructure solutions and its core components. Together with IT Architecture, this position will be the main driver to implement new IT Infrastructure solutions initiated by either strategic initiatives or technology and/or hardware lifecycle.

Reporting directly to the Head of global ITO, this role requires profound understanding of todays and developing IT infrastructure trends, common standards (best practices) as well as a broad set of skills in all relevant IT infrastructure operations areas and last but not least a high degree of autonomy, flexibility and quality awareness.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate, design and implement highly available, highly scalable environments and systems to meet the growing demands of the business

• Work closely with Enterprise Architecture to ensure standard solutions and technologies are correctly leveraged and that decisions are always made in the context of the “big picture”

• Act as the ITO internal point of contact for all architectural and design related matters

• Provide guidance and steering during the implementation of new IT infrastructure solutions

• Participate in RfPs and provide IT infrastructure oversight and validate solutions and designs produced by external providers and partners

• Partner with your global ITO peers and the various stakeholders not only to design next generation technology solutions bur also to perform proper technology and hardware lifecycle while continuing to support and streamline existing business capabilities on legacy systems

• Partner with IT security and other relevant staff to ensure IT systems and solution compliance with Panalpina’s IT security policies/standards and guidelines

Qualifications

• College, university or equivalent degree in Information Technology, with 10+ years hands on working experience in IT operations and/or IT infrastructure management

• Proven track record in large scale IT infrastructure solution design and project implementation

• Profound knowledge in the following technology areas:◦Datacenter architecture, automation and operations with focus on building a “private cloud”

• Server platform and enterprise storage virtualization, automation in hybrid environments

• Network protocols and technologies (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, IPSEC, VPN, VoIP)

• Commodity services cloudification and adoption of new delivery capabilities

• Experience architecting highly available infrastructure systems and components that utilize load balancing, horizontal scalability and high availability

• Experience assessing and building cost models, migration patterns, resource model, project plan, and business cases

• Project management in both waterfall and agile methodologies

• Presentation and written communication skills; high degree of comfort with technical and Executive audiences
