We are looking to hire a Country Head of Ocean Freight & BUM Alex/Suez to responsible for the profitability of the Ocean Freight FCL and LCL products and manages the Country Ocean Freight P&L.,

as well as defining local strategy and development aligned with Regional and Global objectives. He/she reports to the Country Manager and works closely with the

other products/functions within the Country, as well as with Regional Ocean Freight

Responsibilities

• To execute the global Ocean Freight product and trade lane / network and procurement strategy (FCL & LCL) at Country Level, and escalate when necessary

• To own and manage the Ocean Freight product P&L for the Country and to deliver agreed EBIT targets.

• Own all elements of the end-to-end product (incl. cost optimization, subcontractor management and pricing)

• Through cooperation with Sales, drive the growth of Ocean Freight in the Country

• Ensure operational excellence and high productivity within the Country

• To act as a leadership role model for the country Ocean Freight organization and to drive workforce planning and change management within it

• To execute the global Ocean Freight policies, standards and guidelines at Country level

• To be an active and engaged member of the Country Management Team

Qualifications

-General Management and Leadership

• Ensure the implementation of the global Ocean Freight strategy within the Country

• Ownership of all Ocean Freight actions, projects and initiatives in the Country, aligned with the Regional and Global Ocean Freight Strategy

• Line management of:

• The Country Ocean Freight team

• Ocean Freight Service Center Managers (if applicable)

• Matrix line management of:

• BU Heads of Ocean Freight (if applicable)

• Escalate quality / performance issues to Regional Ocean Freight when necessary

• Planning of Country Ocean Freight budget targets in alignment with global and regional strategy

• Update and support rolling forecast estimates on a monthly basis

• Drive change management in the country Ocean Freight organization

• Identify talents and ensure constant development of skilled manpower to satisfy continuous demand of efficiency and professionalism as well as for succession planning.

• In cooperation with the other Country Products/Functions, develop and implement initiatives to develop and grow the local market

• Support all Ocean Freight projects / initiatives within the country as requested by Regional or Corporate functions. Constructively challenge the requests/initiatives when appropriate.

-Drive Ocean Freight Growth and Profitability

• Jointly with Country Sales, drive the achievement of country growth targets by:

• Setting the Country Ocean Freight growth targets per tradelane

• Supporting Country Sales in creation of target customer lists, in particular for the country accounts

• Acting as the product expert in the solution design process and in service delivery issues

• Validating and ensuring market conforming MSR / pricing proposed by Country Sales and resolving discrepancies with Regional counterparts;

• Qualifying country RFQ’s and participating in the decision on which business to go for

• Attending customer meetings as and when required

• Actively engaging in ensuring retention of country accounts

• Increasing revenue from local fee-based services (e.g. local charges, customs clearance)

• Provide bid support to Tender Management on buying rates, consolidation opportunities, and network constraints.

• Take ownership of the provision of competitive end-to-end rates

• Provide pricing input to the centralized Ocean Freight Pricing team for global tenders

-Ocean Freight Operational Delivery

• Ensure consistent achievement of operational standards to meet customer requirements

• Actively manage the Country Ocean Freight Product P&L by ensuring productivity and profitability in the day-to-day operations, including ensuring compliance with Forwarding Order Policy

• Drive continuous improvement of BU operations by empowering the Ocean Freight Business Process & Training (BPT) organization

• Monitor operational performance (sub-contractors, productivity, quality of service, data, incident handling) and initiate, implement and control corrective actions; escalate the Regional Head of Ocean freight when needed.

• Monitor performance against annually agreed Product KPI’s and initiate corrective actions

• Evaluate and monitor operational risks, ensure contingency planning, and implement corrective actions;

• Support Business Implementation projects, including implementation of EDI interfaces, analyzing root causes of problems and coordinating critical operational interventions

• Implement and execute the globally defined rules and procedures related to Governance and NVOCC (Pantainer) within the Country, continuously monitor adherence and initiate corrective actions when needed

-Trade Lane / Network Management & Subcontractor Management

• Execute the Global Carrier Policy in the Country and monitor compliance; escalate to Regional Head of Ocean Freight in case of conflicts,

• Create relationships, negotiate agreements with and manage subcontractors on Country level in line with Global Standards; arrange regular review meetings and provide minutes to the Region

• Ensure that allocation agreements are managed and monitored

• Monitor Inbound/Outbound volume development/trade lane aligned with target setting;

• Ensure adherence to global subcontractor management policy

• Quality, Health, Safety & Environment

• Participate in country-level review meetings regarding quality, health, safety and environment action plans, activities and performance

• Review and approve all relevant country-level objectives & targets regarding quality, health, safety and environment

• Evaluate strategic and operational risks and opportunities to country-level operations and business interests regarding quality, health, safety and environmental topics, including environmental and workplace health and safety regulations, changing expectations of stakeholders, and national/local issues.

Specifics for Job / Environment

• Bachelor's degree in Business Administration/Economics/Logistics or freight forwarding apprenticeship

• Minimum 5-10 years of industry experience either on the forwarder or carrier side

• Minimum 5 years of experience in people management and leadership, including recruitment, training & development, coaching, conflict and performance management

• Work experience in a global forwarding / logistics company

• International experience preferred
