We are looking to hire a District Overland and Distribution Manager to manage Overland and Distribution (LOADs) within the West District. Review, update and create new Standard Operating Process for the District. Provides internal and external customer solutions and support. Operational development of both Overland and Distribution network. Design strategies and coordinate with sales team the growth of LOADs customer base. Executes driving cost control and service improvement resulting in increased business opportunity and customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities

• Conduct procurement activities/negotiation with District and local Transportation carriers focused on security compliance, cost efficiency and appropriate rate levels

• Lead District activities focused on procurement standards for local operations with local providers

• Responsible for adherence to subcontractor compliance in Exworks XVM, measurement and audit

• Responsible for Exworks XDS management system accuracy and maintenance through reporting staff

• Provides leadership and management to direct Overland and Distribution Department Staff

• Provide sales support including procurement, pricing, negotiating and execution solutions

• Plan and organizes work activities, uses time efficiently and develops realistic action plans for each Business Unit

• Creates KPI’s template to measure both Panalpina customer service level and carrier performance

• Design routes, circuits and consolidation runs based on center of gravity and corresponding rates for easy quoting purposes

• Quality Management define as ways to improve and promote quality and demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness

• Achieve operational excellence, cost leadership and customer satisfaction within the functional scope

• Co-responsible with District Head of Logistics of annual targets and objectives achievement while maintaining a healthy financial result at EBIT level

Decision Making Authority

• Designates, selects and elaborates an endorsed carrier list for the local geographies to work with (Business Units) based on economy of scale

• Carrier selection is based on structured compliance, service standards and cost

• Provide and/or approve through reporting staff all applicable rates as required by Business Units within the District

• Travel to BU’s within district and area for procurement activities

• Limited signing authority

Qualifications

• Working knowledge of FCL dray activities and intermodal movement

• Problem solving - the individual identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner, gathers and analyzes information skillfully. Deals with issues in a factual, objective manner

• Strong knowledge and experience with TSA ground transportation requirements (IACSSP)

• Strong communication skills, ability to help manage change and sell change benefits to internal customers

Skills

• Good interpersonal skills to effectively interact with internal Customers

• Good presentation skills – ability to provide thoughtful input when presenting to internal and external customers

• Good judgment skills and the ability to make decisions confidently

• Team player. Able to work within a fast-paced diverse environment

• Strong knowledge of MS Office suite. If an internal candidate knowledge of Panalpina internal systems SAP, FOS, CargoPoint is helpful but not required

• Proficient in the use of MS software.

Educational Background / Work Experience

• Domestic transportation operational experience, preferably in local trucking or LTL – 5+ years

Or Freight forwarding operational experience, particularly emphasis on local operations – 7+ years

• Direct management / supervisory experience – 5 years with a minimum of 2 Years working for a 3PL

Language Skills

• Fluency in English

• Second language a plus
