The Business Unit Head of Air Freight is responsible for the business unit affairs of the Air Freight product.

He/She will work closely with Area Trade lane Management & Procurement Air Freight, and with Corporate Air Freight Standards & Governance

He/She shall implement the instructions of Area Airfreight in his/her business unit

The primary purpose of this role is:

* To execute the Area Air Freight product and trade lane management / procurement strategies at the business unit level

* To execute the global Air Freight standards & guidelines at Business unit level

* Accountability of overall operational performance in his/her BU

* Monitor budget and EBIT2 performance of air freight related products at BU level

Trade Lane Management & Procurement:

* Responsible for following/enforcing the capacity and procurement strategy in the business unit in line with the area product and trade lane strategy

* Set up the capacity planning (allotments, BSA, consolidation share) based on the carrier strategy, the trade lane plans and guidelines received from Area Air Freight

* Responsible for Capacity Management / Optimization, i.e.

* Allotment optimization

* Ad-hoc capacity buy, in order to optimize cost of sale

* Track Area procurement execution against plan with respect to volumes and carriers and initiate and track corrective actions as required, as directed by Area Air Freight

* Develop, drive and monitor corrective actions in case of deviations of actual Air Freight Product performance against plan

* Ensure the management of capacity agreements are in the respective systems

* Provide input to the Area Head of Air Freight, Trade Lane Management & Procurement on pricing analysis and support resolution of BU concerns (e.g. capacity management / better pricing / selection of carriers)

* Decide on spot rates for new business opportunities

* Set KPI and incentive framework to be applied in the BU for specific SLAs with carriers, in alignment with the Area Head of Airfreight. Monitor, control and consolidate performance feedback for area review meetings

* Liaise with Global Own Controlled Product & Procurement Air when required

* Analyze cargo flows / cargo mix / consolidation benefit / GP out of the BU

* Perform (Air carrier) DPO optimization in his/her Area

* Maintain and cultivate local relationships with carriers

* Ensure strict adherence to the Panalpina Code of Conduct

* Adherence to the Global air carrier portfolio

Air Freight Product Management:

* Support the Area Head of Air Freight in defining the Internal Transfer Pricing (ITP) (if applicable)

* Ensure correct ITP calculation in his/her BU and to keep the resulting under-/over coverage within the defined maximum tolerance level (if applicable)

* Monitor under-/over overages on ITP trade lanes and comment the figures to the Area Head of Air Freight on a quarterly basis (if applicable)

Support of Sales Functions:

* Execute sales strategy jointly with Marketing & Sales to fulfill given growth targets

* Support Marketing & Sales in creation of Target Lists and in Pricing Issues

* Validate Market Selling Rates (MSR) / pricing concept proposed by BU Sales and resolve discrepancies with Area Airfreight management

* Provide bid support by giving input to Area Tender Management on buying rates, consolidation opportunities, and network constraints

* Interface between Area Airfreight management in steering execution of Trade Lane Concept (incl. monitoring)

Business Implementation:

* Stay informed on the closing report at the end of each account implementation project. Analyze and identify root cause problems

* Coordinate critical operational interventions, as directed by the Corporate Head of Customer Care & Implementation, to secure short term stability of account

Air Freight Operational Delivery (in cooperation with the Area Head of Operations, if applicable):

* Define, optimize and implement BU standards & guidelines, as directed by the Area Head of Air Freight and in line with Global Guidelines and Standards

* Provide feedback on procedures and give guidance to efficiently analyze and qualify potential improvement initiatives, driving timely implementation within the organization and monitoring adherence to implemented standards

* Support the development of process guidelines and templates to assist implementation and adherence to processes

* Support the development of a cross-functional planning schedule to synchronize all planning processes (Tradelane Master Planning, Capacity Planning etc.) and ensure adherence to this schedule by respective organizations

* Monitor performance (productivity; quality of service, data, subcontractors; incident management) and initiate, implement and control corrective actions

* Evaluate and monitor operational risks, ensure contingency planning, and implement corrective actions

* Ensure that bookings onto GFX carriers are done via GFX so as the GFX penetration level out of the area surpass 50%

* Liaise with Gateways to ensure correct job costing, correct ECA/ICA assignment on MAWB (ITP) files

* Assure the correct and full use of standard operational applications (FOS, Airwarder, Pantrace, etc.

* Manage subcontractors on Area level in line with Global Standards

* Drive continuous improvement of BU operations

* Overall responsibility for file maintenance; shipping run, ASI ratio, DSO, job costing accuracy as per guidelines or defined targets

* Ensure the correct and full use of standard operational applications (FOS, PanTrace, PRT etc.)

* Adhere to global standards/KPIs regarding identification of incidents through IHT tool

* Adhere to global standards of all operational KPI Pantrace/E AWB

General Management:

* Manage Shared Service Centers and Gateways (if applicable)

* Escalate quality / performance issues to Area Air Freight when necessary

Educational Background / Work Experience:

* Minimum 5 years of operational air freight experience either on the forwarder or airline side

* Minimum 5 years of experience in people management and leadership, including recruitment, training & development, coaching, conflict and performance management

* Strong knowledge of dangerous goods

* Strong knowledge of Canadian cargo security programs
